Torr Cottage,
near Aberfeldy
Perthshire
Sleeps 2
Torr Cottage is both a very high-standard and a highly-situated cottage, standing almost 1,000ft up in the hills of a private 10,000-acre country estate in central Scotland. It is a stone-built Highland cottage - entirely on its own - which was once occupied by estate families who took for granted the sweeping panorama of hills around them, the free trout-fishing, and the champagne air they breathed - but modern tenants always comment on, and greatly appreciate, these bonuses.
Certainly those early families would have appreciated being able to drive a car up the 1.5 mile farm road right to the cottage door from Aberfeldy; and, equally, been amazed by the shops, restaurants, swimming-pool (tenants have 2 days free use), and 18-hole golf-course (tenants benefit from reduced green-fees) in this country town, as well as by the water-sports centre at Kenmore, and the very many day excursions it is possible to make.
The cottage interior was completely and thoughtfully redesigned a few years ago to suit two people - perhaps honeymooners - who want to be away on their own; and it has been most comfortably furnished. A stone terrace with garden furniture and barbecue has been added at the rear (patio doors from sitting room) from which you can watch the deer on the hills in the early morning and evening.
Heating is by wood-burning stove (logs
included), night-store and convector heaters. Bed-linen and towels are
included. Pets are welcome but dogs should be kept on a leash within the Estate (stock in adjoining fields).
