Tigh na Mara

Sleeps 8

Scotland is famed for its breathtaking lochs and mountains and this property certainly lives up to the reputation. Sitting within the pretty village of Salen on the foreshore of Loch Sunart on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, Tigh Na Mara commands amazing views across the water and the hills beyond. The property has access to the loch from two private beaches as well as a favourite fishing rock at the bottom of the garden. The private beaches are suitable for launching a small craft and Salen Village also offers a pontoon from which a berth on this or a mooring can be arranged through Salen Jetty.

An immaculately presented oak post and beam property which comprises a spacious open plan sitting/dining and kitchen area with a wood burning stove and underfloor heating and patio doors leading out to a large covered seating area and deck with furniture and barbecue. There is a separate snug with games/TV and extensive library. Also on the ground floor is a king-sized bedroom, a twin bedroom, family bathroom with shower, utility room and additional shower with WC. Continuing upstairs is a further king-sized bedroom and twin bedded room both with double aspect sea views and a family bathroom with shower.

Located in the most westerly area of UK mainland yet still just over an hour's drive to the major tourist centre of Fort William and Oban, the fascinating peninsula of Ardnamurchan offers a dramatic backdrop of magnificent mountains and rugged moorland alongside a coastline of white sands. Also, being one of the least-populated areas in Britain, it offers a wonderful range of wildlife including otters, seals, deer, pine martens, wildcats, and a vast variety of birds' including buzzards and eagles.

There are wonderful walks to be had in the surrounding mountains, and in the winter months if skiing is your pleasure, there are a choice of slopes near Fort William or Glencoe, both of which can be reached in around an hour.

Within a 5 to 10 minute walk is the Salen Hotel which has a bar and restaurant serving lunch and dinner. The nearby villages of Acharacle (2 miles) and Strontian (7 miles) also offers a hotel, shops, petrol and cafe. Should you wish to explore further afield, you can head west to Ardnamurchan Point passing through Kilchoan (which operates a ferry crossing to Tobermory, Mull in the summer months) and by a Stevenson lighthouse at the westernmost point in mainland Britain and the amazing beach at Sanna. Heading north from Salen you join the 'Road to the Isles', with the silver sands of Arisaig and Morar. There is also a wonderful seaside golf course at Traigh (which means 'beach') and a ship from the port of Mallaig to the Isle of Skye.

Heating by air source heat pump is included!included. Bed linen, towels, electricity and WiFi are included!included. One pet is welcome. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage. Please note that although a stunning location, due to its close proximity to the water, care would need to be taken by families with children.
