Struan Cottage
Near Ardgay
Sutherland
Sleeping 2
Struan Cottage is a traditional, 200-year-old stone cottage, completely self contained, which is semi-detached at right angles to Mid-Fearn House on the 17-acre private Estate bordering the Dormoch Firth, 36 miles north of Inverness and just south of Bonar Bridge in Sutherland. A banking leads down to a stream at the rear.
Sleeping two, it is a simple, homely cottage, with a wood burning stove in the living room and with views across the lawns to the Firth which is just a short walk away. Strolling along the shore, you may see osprey, buzzards and deer, and occasionally also seals sunning themselves on the sandbanks.
At Struan, you are on the high road to the North and the North West, with a real choice of where to explore. To the east, you have the pretty town of Dornoch (13m), with its cathedral, wonderful beaches and famous golf course. To the north, there's John o'Groats (90m) - as far as you can go without falling off the end, where you might like to take the boat for a trip to Orkney. Or, to the northwest, there is Lochinver (49m), Ullapool (47m) and the wonderful mountains of Torridon.
There is excellent fishing in the area, walking and hill walking, and if you fancy a dram, Golspie and Brora (27m), just to the north, have excellent distilleries.
Heating is by gas CH (£15
included) and wood-burning stove. Bed linen, towels and electricity are
included. One well behaved pet is welcome. Please note that water is from a private source.
