Seahorse Cottage

Seahorse Cottage
Gardenstown
Banffshire

Sleeps 6

The Moray coast, vaunted as the sunniest part of Britain, is dotted with picturesque fishing villages. Perhaps none is quite so full of character as Gardenstown (pubs, shops, hotel) which is built on a series of terraces on the cliff side running down to the harbour, linked by lanes and walkways. It also has a sandy beach.

Harbour

Seahorse Cottage is a very spacious house just a few yards from the harbour itself, which has been beautifully renovated and furnished by its owners to provide the most comfortable of holiday accommodation. The living space is quite unique. In addition to a comfortable sitting room with coal fire, there is a further large lounge with dining table and TV/DVD and yet another family room/den/playroom with portable TV. No question of guests being crowded at Seahorse Cottage, then! There is a further dining kitchen and three bedrooms. Outside, there are two patios, one with views of the harbour and seafront.

Perhaps due to the absence of traffic, (you can drive down to the harbour) Gardenstown has a lovely atmosphere - if you like roving around on foot, you will find quite a few steps, however. There are cafes and craft shops, an excellent baker, a butcher and a small supermarket, so most needs are catered for. For major shopping, Macduff and Banff are about 8 miles away.

Sandy beach

As far as exploring further afield is concerned, you can range along the coast. To the east, there is the little villages of Crovie, to which you can walk under the cliffs from Gardenstown, and Pennan, where you can still see the phonebox made famous in the film 'Local Hero'. There are some excellent golf courses along the coast, while inland you can head for the Speyside Way, or go on a Whisky pilgrimage, visiting the many distilleries along the Whisky Trail.

For a dash of culture, Banff is home to Duff House, an outpost of the Scottish National Gallery. The National Trust properties of Haddo House, Leith Hall and Fyvie Castle are also within an easy drive.

Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are all Electricity, bed-linen and towels are all included!included. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
