Marchbank is a neat modern house standing on its own in an amazing setting on the shores of Loch Bracadale between Dunvegan and Sligachan on the west coast of Skye. The sitting room in the cottage has enormous windows and patio doors specifically designed to maximize the wonderful view over the water towards the unusual, flat-topped hills known as MacLeod's Tables.

You can park your car right at the door and if you wish to bring your own boat there is free use of the jetty below the house. In fact, at Marchbank, you are master of your own stretch of shoreline. Children can play freely and adults can potter about on the lookout for the occasional glimpse of an otter. Seals and a huge variety of seabirds are common visitors and if you are fortunate you may catch sight of a sea eagle. (However, please keep the gate shut or you will have frequent visits from the nosy local sheep, who can play havoc in the garden.)

The inside of the house matches up to its setting. There is a comfortable sitting room, a spacious and well-equipped dining kitchen with the latest in modern conveniences and a utility room with washing machine and tumble drier. The generous-sized master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en suite; there are two more bedrooms and a large family bathroom. Right at the top of the spiral staircase there is an added bonus in the form of a second, huge sitting room/playroom with wide screen TV/DVD, so there is no shortage of space.

7 miles away is the historic town of Dunvegan with shops, restaurants and, of course, the well-known castle and gardens and nearby coral beach. Boat trips are available from here out to the seal islands. The roads in this part of the island are very good which makes most of the island easily accessible for day trips, including the 'capital' Portree, about half an hour's drive away. Attractions include visiting the Talisker distillery at Carbost on Loch Harport (please note that there are two Carbosts on Skye!), heading into the Red Cuillin from Sligachan or, if that sounds too energetic, playing golf at Sconser (18m). However, you may just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Marchbank.

Heating is by electric heaters. Bed linen, towels, and and the first £25 of electricity are included!included. Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
