Aviemore, in the very heart of the Highlands and right beside the Cairngorms, has, in the last 50 years, acquired a stellar reputation as an all-year-round holiday resort, popular with skiers in winter, and walkers, climbers, sailors and wildlife enthusiasts at other times. Its facilities have developed accordingly and it now offers a whole raft of leisure pursuits to keep the whole family happy.

And if the facilities can scarcely be bettered, the same is true of the accommodation offered at Holly Cottage. This superb, newly built and commodious detached cottage is located on the edge of the village. It is only a few minutes walk from the Dalfaber Golf and Country Club, where guests have a free pass to access many of the activities, such as the swimming pool and nine hole golf course, free of charge.

The cottage stands in its own enclosed garden, safe for children to play and with parking for three cars. Inside, it is all on one level and most beautifully appointed with such additional features as a 32" flatscreen TV/DVD, Ipod docking station and Wii console. There are three bedrooms, a double with ensuite shower, a twin and bunk bedded rooms, plus an additional bathroom.

Apart from the leisure centre, guests can take the gondola up the Cairngorm, (or, if you don't have a head for heights, try the Cairngorm Mountain Railway), sail on beautiful Loch Morlich, visit the Sleddog and Reindeer Centres. The Glenmore Visitor Centre offers ranger-led walks and cycle trails, while Speyside Wildlife, Rothiemurchus allows visitors to see all kinds of animals in their natural habitat. Walkers will find themselves at the beginning of the Speyside Way here. A little further afield, there is the Landmark Forest Theme Park at Carrbridge and Waltzing Waters at Newtonmore.

Of course, you don't have to be so active - this is a lovely place for just relaxing. It's also just off the main A9 Perth-Inverness road, so there is plenty of scope for touring in all directions.

Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are all included. Sorry, no pets or smoking in the cottage. Special rates may apply during the ski season.
