Glenesslin Cottage
Dunscore
Dumfries
Sleeping 5/6
Glenesslin Cottage is peacefully situated on a working farm in the hills about 12 miles west of Dumfries in south west Scotland, with extensive views across the surrounding countryside. Fully detached, it stands in its own enclosed garden, so is ideal for children, who will also enjoy the ping pong table in the garage.
An attractive, traditional cottage, full of character, it has been completely refurbished and furnished to a very high standard with full oil central heating and an open fire in the cosy sitting room.
There are excellent walks straight from the house, and in the Scaur Glen, where you can view the sculptures by Andy Goldsworthy and the bronze age forts. Salmon fishing can be arranged on the Nith and there are good golf courses at Southerness, (40minutes) and Dumfries (20 mins.)
One of the foremost attractions in the area is Drumlanrig Castle and Country Park, situated near the pretty village of Thornhill, where there are some interesting shops. Another place not-to-be-missed is Glenkiln Reservoir, just to the south of the cottage, where you can view a unique collection of sculptures by Henry Moore, Epstein and Rodin in a natural setting.
Less than an hour's drive from the A74 trunk road at Lockerbie, the cottage is well placed for both the Solway Coast (visit Sweetheart Abbey and Caerlaverock Castle) and the wooded hills of the hinterland, where there is good walking and cycling. The castle and NT gardens at Threave are just a 40 minute drive away
Bed linen, towels, heating and £15 electricity are
included. Up to two well behaved pets welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.
