Creagen Cottage is situated 3 miles north of Lochgilphead (shops, hotels, swimming-pool, golf) on a farm and within its own large grassy garden. Detached and only recently refurbished as a comfortable holiday home it sits beside the towpath which follows the Crinan Canal from Cairnbaan (1m) to the famous yachting centre of picturesque Crinan harbour (4m) on the west coast. Access to the cottage is quite easy as it lies close to Lock 11 on the opposite side of the canal to the B841. Visitors will enjoy watching the parade of fishing-boats and sea-going yachts as they pass through from Loch Fyne during the day or moor at night before heading out into the Atlantic the next day. The 'most beautiful short-cut in Britain' is the name sometimes given to the 200 year-old canal and the magnificent scenery of the immediate surroundings is testament to this.

There are attractions in all directions: just to the west of the cottage is the National Nature Reserve of Moine Mhor where you will enjoy an abundance of birdlife, insects and unusual plants; to the south is the famous Mull of Kintyre and the opportunity to take the ferry to the islands of Gigha, Jura and Islay from West Loch Tarbert; to the north as you drive on the road to Oban there are fabulous views of the Western Isles and in Oban itself there are many possible day-trip destinations such as Mull, Iona, Staffa. On the way you pass through Kilmartin Glen, birthplace of the 'Scots' where you can admire the prehistoric stone circles, ring-marked rocks, carvings and other remains of the Kingdom of Dalriada. Cairnbaan and Crinan both have very good hotel restaurants.
