View Burnmouth and Glentairie Cottages are wonderfully situated on a 6,000acre private country Estate at the top of one of the very favourite Angus Glens - Glen Prosen, just north of the Highland line - which winds deep into the Grampian Hills from the Vale of Strathmore above Kirriemuir (12m.- shops/hotels, etc), easily accessible from Dundee (30m.) and Perth (50m.)

It is a spectacular, truly romantic glen, carved out by glaciers many thousands of years ago - beloved by J.M. Barrie author of Peter Pan; and by Captain Scott of the Antarctic who planned his last Antarctic Expedition here with scientist Dr. Wilson on the veranda of a cottage overlooking what he called 'his favourite view in the whole world'.

Bridge to Burnmouth Cottage Here you will stay in peaceful seclusion in a varied landscape of high heather-covered hills and mountain streams - with moorlands, pine and birchwoods allowing wild birds and flowers to flourish, and deer and other fauna to hide away in those same secret places used as a sanctuary by William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and other patriots to escape pursuing troops many centuries ago - and by the Picts before them.

All around there is wonderful walking (try the 'whisky road' used by smugglers thru' Glen Lethnot), and climbing (2 Munros); while horse-riding, fishing, and bicycles for hire are available on the Estate. Further afield, there are many golf-courses (such as Carnoustie); castles (such as Glamis); museums (such as Scott's Royal Research Ship'Discovery' in Dundee); and an interesting coast with sandy beaches for easy day's outings. In Season there is 'cross-country' skiing; and 'downhill skiing' 25m away at Glenshee.

Accommodation (two cottages)

Burnmouth Cottage (sleeps 4)

is an old stone cottage which stands, detached, at the side of the stream (burn) that brings fresh water down from the hills and woods behind it to join the River Prosen (3 miles of trout-fishing) a matter of yards away. It is one of a very few small cottages and a church that make up the tiny hamlet of Glenprosen, and it has been cleverly and attractively renovated internally without losing its original cosy atmosphere - excellent for two couples who like their comforts and prefer to have their own en-suite bathrooms. The beds have electric-blankets.

Heating is by multi-fuel stove and electricity. Bed-linen is included, and towels can be hired. One dog is welcome ( but must be kept on a lead within the Estate).

Single-storey:

Open-plan sitting/dining-room with multi-fuel stove, TV/Video (no reception), and kitchen-area with electric-cooker, microwave, fridge, washing-machine, tumble-drier, etc., etc.
Double (5ft bed) room with:
en-suite shower, WC and basin.
Twin-bed room with:
en-suite bath, WC and basin.

Burnmouth Cottage:

Glentairie Cottage (sleeps 5, maximum 6)

has a wonderful location, all on its own, standing high, with sweeping views of the hills at the very end of a rough track which can be driven with care about one mile from the hamlet of Glen Prosen. This is a cottage for those who truly want their privacy and to be away from it all. Once there, you may never want to move.

Heating is by open-fire and electricity. Bed-linen is included, and towels can be hired. One dog is welcome (but must be kept on a lead within the Estate).
