Those looking for a charming pied à terre in the Borders within easy driving (or busing) distance of Edinburgh, need look no further than the Bothy at Lauder.
This delightful little house is tucked away at the north end of the village, unoverlooked and in its own enclosed gravel garden, sunny, secluded and very peaceful. The interior has been most comfortably and attractively appointed to make a perfect haven for two people. There is a large, bright and open plan living space, with patio doors to decking (furniture), and a double bedroom and bathroom. Guests have dedicated off-road parking just beside the house. Being all on one level, The Bothy is also an excellent choice for those of limited mobility.
The village of Lauder makes a most convenient base, with shops, a popular craft shop/cafe and several good pubs and eating places within walking distance of The Bothy. It also has its own golf course. The bus to Edinburgh passes the road end, so a car-free day in the capital is very much on the cards. Just outside the village is Thirlestane Castle, which is open to the public.
Here, you are very much midway between the lovely countryside of the Borders, with superb walking, biking, riding and fishing. To the north east, less than an hour will bring you to the East Lothian coast, with sandy beaches, surfing and, of course, the famous golf courses at Luffness, Gullane and Muirfield. And if you wish to explore even further afield, there are good road connections to the west and north. This really is one of the places where you can have it all.
The first £15 of gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the Bothy.
